Waikele

Waikele is a unique, planned community in the Waipahu zip code. You will find appealing, well-kept neighborhoods; family-friendly parks; central public pool; biking paths; modern shopping conveniences and premium outlet stores; and easy access to highways and other parts of Oahu.

LOCATION. Waipahu is located along the northern shore of both Middle Loch and West Loch of Pearl Harbor . Both Interstate H-1 and Farrington Highway ( Hawaii Route 90 ) run east–west through the length of Waipahu. The neighboring areas of Waipio , Village Park , Royal Kunia and Waikele use Waipahu as their postal city, and are often considered to be part of Waipahu. Waikele is located across the H1 freeway north of Waipahu. Waikele consists of newer subdivisions and an upscale outlet shopping center and world-famous golf course.

FUN FACTS. Waipahu is the name of an artesian spring . In Hawaiian , Waipahu is derived from wai , meaning “water”, and pah? , meaning “burst or explode”; combined, Waipahu means “water forced up (as out of a spring)”. The early Native Hawaiians took pleasure in the cool and clear water gushing from the ground and named this spring Waipahu. Before the Western civilization set foot in Hawaii, the Hawaiians considered Waipahu to be the capital of Oahu . Royalty in the Kingdom of Hawaii would often gather and enjoy the fresh water from the spring Waipahu.

HOUSING. The Waikele community was developed by the Amfac Corporation back in 1991. This development project began with the construction of two multi-family complexes and one single-family subdivision. Today, the Waikele Community Association (WCA) stands as one of the premier planned communities in the State of Hawaii. Waikele now has 12 multi-family town home complexes and 9 single-family subdivisions.

GOLF. The Waikele Country Club was designed by internationally renowned golf course architect, Ted Robinson. Surrounding the course are spectacular views of Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, and the Ko’olau and Waianae mountains.

SHOPPING. The big draw to the area is the Waikele Premium Outlets. According to some, it’s a “shopper’s paradise” and a must-go. Shop more than 50 designer and brand name outlet stores including Calvin Klein, Carter’s, Coach, Kate Spade New York, Levi’s Outlet, Michael Kors, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Bahama, Tommy Hilfiger, Vans Outlet, and more.
